01. Why are you running for this office?

I am the person who can lead education in the right direction. I care about
leaving a better education system for our children and grandchildren. I
have been a teacher for over thirty years, a national leader who advocates
for education on the national and state levels, teacher in the national Eli
Broad award winning district, and recipient of the U.S. Senatorial Medal of
Freedom Award. I have authored a sixteen-step plan to improve education in
California. Safe schools provide a positive learning environment for
optimum academic achievement, reduce drop-out rate, and increase the high
school graduation rate, preparing our students for higher education and
joining the work force. Local control is important for accountability in
education, and community partipation in local neighborhood schools. I have
posted my position statements concering relevant issues of education on my

exam) numerous times. Currently, I am a high school English and world
history teacher in Orange County, CA.

26. On June 23, 2005 the U.S. Supreme Court decided in KELO et al. v. City
of New London et al., that they would allow the City of New London,
Connecticut to take the property of private citizens for commercial
division. Similar to the action taken on May 28, 2002 the Cypress City
Council in California with the Board of Directors of the Cypress
Redevelopment agency voted to condemn the land purchased for the
construction of a new Church building by Cottonwood Christian Center.
The city intended to give Cottonwood's property to Costco Wholesale
Corporation, or a developer that builds a tax-generating facility. Do you
support governmental entities using eminent domain laws for the benefit of
commercial ventures or enterprises?

in favor of the demands of the ACLU and two (2) Supervisors, Antonovich and
Knabe, voting against the decision to negotiate with the American Civil
Liberties Union (ACLU) over its threat to sue unless a small cross is
removed from the county seal, rather than to fight the threatened lawsuit.
Zev Yaroslavsky one of the three (3) voting for removal said: "I don't
personally believe that any religious symbol on any government seal is
